Important Winter 2020 Season Update from Coach Hudson:
"Tis the season: winter training.
We fully anticipate racing this spring and now is the time to make sure we're knocking off any dust, stepping on the gas pedal, and getting after it!
1. Updates
Just like any other year, we will be erging and weight training. However, for now, the contexts will be a little different. It is important to note that will be following the Governor's orders, and any/all decisions made by RFH regarding winter sports.
Governor Murphy has ordered a hiatus of all winter scholastic sports until January 2nd, 2021. However, it is possible this could be extended-- we will have to wait and see.
2. Winter Training--Erging
As mentioned, we will be erging and weight training this winter, with a couple caveats:
a. New Erging Location--Bingham Hall
Rumson Boro has very graciously offered the basement of Bingham Hall as our new erging location. This is absolutely awesome! I have checked out the space myself last month and it is far superior to erging in a humid, cramped classroom. An extra bonus is that we DO NOT have to put the ergs away at the end of each practice. This new location will also allow us to erg before school, as well as during any missed water practices due to wind/weather.
b. Winter Erg Workouts
The coaches will be posting 5 workouts per week that are expecting athletes to complete via Twitter. Our Twitter handle is: @Coach_RFHRowing. These workouts will be completed at home for now, but we are hoping to formally return to organized erging in January (following all health and safety guidelines).
If you do not have an erg, you are still expected to workout. Your workouts will be listed as well-- it will involve running, biking, and/or circuits. Primarily, you will be running as that is the easiest replacement for the erg.
3. Strength Training
Winter strength training workouts are posted on RFH STRENGTH Google Classroom. Sign up today if you haven't already.
All athletes will be strength training at home for now. All strength workouts are written for athletes both that have access to weights, and do not have access to weights.
All strength workouts are written by Coach Orrok, as usual. These are the same exact workouts the athletes would see on the TV monitors during all winter lifts, as usual. These workouts are updated weekly by coach Orrok, as usual.
4. Looking ahead
The coaching staff expects the athletes to continue training as if it were any other winter season. A successful spring is forged by a tough and focused winter. We have a great group of athletes and we look forward to kicking some butt this spring.
Make progress, not excuses.
If anyone has any questions please contact me.
Thanks,
RFHR Coaches
